I have a yellowish green discharge from my penis. im male 24yr old. I didnt went to the hospital for check up because im ashamed of it and im scared of it. So I inquired my nurse friend and recommended ciprofloxacin 500mg twice a day for 7 days. but when I reached my 7th day I continued the use of the medicine because i still have discharge and its my 9th day today. I have researched in the internet that long term use of teh medicine have side effects so I will stop this on the 14th day. Does it really take this long to cure gonorrhea?
What is gonorrhea?
Gonorrhea is a sexually transmitted disease (STD) caused by a bacteria called Neisseria gonorrhoeae. Approximately 6,000 cases are reported each year in Wisconsin, making it the second most commonly reported STD in the state.
Who gets gonorrhea?
Anyone who is sexually active can get gonorrhea, but those at greater risk include:
Adolescents
Persons diagnosed with any STD
Persons with a sex partner diagnosed with any STD
Persons with more than one sex partner
Persons with a new sex partner
Many men who engage in unprotected sex with multiple partners are in high risk of acquiring a sexually transmitted disease or more popularly known as STD. Sexually transmitted diseases, as deciphered from its name, are transmitted through sexual contact. It may be curable or incurable. The one of the most common sexually transmitted diseases among men is chlamydia.
Chlamydia in men is often associated with painful urination. Other symptoms include itchiness or burning feeling on the tip of the penis, frequent urination, and white and watery or greenish and yellowish discharge from the penis. However, these symptoms does not appear always. It is quite common for chlamydia in men not to show any symptoms. In fact, a man might be affected with chlamydia without him knowing it. And even if symptoms of chlamydia in men do appear, it takes one to three weeks from infection before it can be noticed.
The best way to prevent chlamydia is by abstaining from sex or by engaging in self-pleasure through masturbation. If you choose to be sexually active with another parner, you may opt to use a latex condom for protection. This is greatly advisable especially to those who have multiple sex partners. Unprotected sex with multiple partners should be avoided. You should also know the sexual history and health of your partner. These steps are the best way to prevent chlamydia in men.
The treatment for chlamydia is through certain antibiotics. You will be required by the doctor to take these antibiotics for a certain period of time at a regular dosage. While undergoing treatment for chlamydia, you should not engage in any sexual activity with another partner. Engaging in sexual relation with another person will not only transfer of the disease to your partner but also cause further aggravation of your disease and increase the chances of you being re-infected.
If left untreated or ignored, chlamydia in men may cause continuous discomfort, pain, and may sometimes lead to sterility. Untreated chlamydia among men rarely leads to complications such as arthritis or inflammation of the eye and testicles although its effects cause discomfort, uneasiness, and suffering.
Chlamydia can be easily determined through a simple urine test or cotton swab sample from the penis. It has often been labeled as the silent disease because of the absence of symptoms in certain cases of chlamydia. Some people are not aware of having such disease thereby transferring it to their partner, which in turn, leads to the impairment of their health. What is worse is that one who is infected will just be surprised of the irreversible effects of chlamydia in the long run.
Being the silent disease, chlamydia is very dangerous. It may take anyone aback and unarmed because of the absence of its symptoms. It is best to practice the preventive measures recommended in order to avoid chlamydia. However, if you are in doubt whether you are infected with chlamydia or not or you are experiencing any of the symptoms of this sexually transmitted disease, it is best to go to a health professional and have yourself tested for chlamydia.
Does an STD test or pap smear test for trichomoniasis or you have to specifically ask for it??
I have been tested for STDs and the doctor said i’m negative but I wanted to know whether or not they check for trichomoniasis?
Is this included in the standard STD test or do I have to specifically tell the doctor to test me for it separately?
I have had about 6-7 pap smears and 5 or more STD tests and a blood STD test in the past years and they all came back negative and I’m desperate because I have this burning and itching and it doesn’t go away. I was treated for BV and yeast infection so many times with pills and creams but it’s still there so trichomoniasis is my worry now.
Thanks in advance!
its a completely different test that needs to be disgussed with your doc before sending out the pap test. there is also a test they can do in the office if they are prepared for it. they can get CLIA waved Trich tests to perform in the office. goodluck.

IM not sure how it works. you dont have to use your insurance. receipts that can take 2 more recent and to base the cost out of their income that way. you have to call the Planning office you want to go and make an appointment. can ask any questions you have and can answer precisely. ask what you need to bring. ask what the cost will be with and without insurance. Let them know if you plan to bring their receipts to get a discount.
Herpes Simplex has two distinct forms – Simplex 1 which is oral herpes found on the face and Simplex 2 found on the genitals. Millions of people have contracted one form or the other of herpes. Some of them don’t realize they have it while others are very aware of it due to the sores and itching it causes. For pregnant women there are concerns about herpes and the unborn child. Most prenatal care programs involve testing for STD’s including Herpes Simplex.
The situation of having herpes is never pleasant, but it is much more complicated when the woman is pregnant. There can be plenty of complications for both the mother and the unborn child due to the Herpes Simplex virus. In rare cases in can result in death but in most cases the newborn is born with a very extreme rash. If it isn’t treated immediately it could rupture and all fluids to drain. This is very painful for the infant and precautions are taken to prevent it from happening.
Many newborns end up with the skin condition Eczema Herpeticum which is a skin problem. It can cause scabs to form all over the body. They are extremely tender, itchy, and painful. The child may also develop cycles of fever and chills as the immune system is weakened by the onset of the Herpes Simplex virus. If the infant’s immune system is extremely weak the baby could die.
This type of virus is very harsh on the skin of an infant. They can go blind if the virus causes their eyelids or corneas to swell. This results in the eye rupturing and then eventually blindness occurring. A more serious concern is that the Herpes Simplex virus has affected vital organs such as the heart or lungs. In 80% of infants who die from herpes this is the cause. There can be brain damage that occurs as well.
The fact that a pregnant woman has herpes doesn’t necessarily mean her baby will have them. Studies show that 7.7% of infants from a vaginal delivery and 1.1% of infants from a cesarean are affected by the Herpes Simplex virus.
I’m just wondering if they do std and hiv check-up’s for males. If the male is a minor of 17 does he have to bring his legal parent/gaurdian and how much would testing for std’s and hiv cost at planned parenthood. Thank You. Or if anyone knows a place where a male minor could get checked out w/o his parents for an agreeable price…THANKS!
additional info…this is my boyfriend and his parents don’t believe in general practicioners. He rarely see’s a doctor and if he does it’s his experimental doctor that costs him thousands per visit. So my mom would be able to tak him…but we don’t know where..etc. (we’ve already have had sex, my mother doesn’t know that though…anyway i’ve seen a gyno and i checked out fine..doesn’t mean he’s fine though…so we both want him tested!)
As someone else said, you can go see a clinic like planned parenthood or another health clinic for free or low cost, anonymous testing even if you’re a minor of 17. Use google to locate testing centers in your area and definitely encourage your boyfriend to go. They certainly have STD and HIV checks for males, just as they do for females. Don’t forget that you should go get tested too!
I have this unbearable itch ‘down there’ and its been driving me crazy. I’ve looked up STD’s and I have none of the symptoms for the common ones. I do, however, shave down there but i put baby oil or lotion on after shaving. Is there any products out there that could help with this or should I consult my GYN.
If it is just itch and no discharge it may not be a yeast infection….perhaps just irritation from shaving….There is a product…a spray called “Dermoplast” – If what you have is only topical itching, this will immediately stop the itch and reduce the irritation…..If there is a discharge, then a yeast infection could be causing the itching, in which case, monistat or other yeast infection med will help along with the dermoplast….I would call my Gynecologist to be sure.
Get better soon!!!!
Can you use a female condom and protect from STDs if you have sex with another girl?
I am trying to find a way to have sex with another girl without getting an STD. Are there condoms for girls?
I’m bicurious not lesbian or bisexual, I still want to experment though.
Please just give me an answer. I need to know if I can use a condom to protect myself.
STD is transmissable through direct contact of an infected person , whether they are male or female.
There are female condoms at chemist/pharmacies
A female condom is a device that is used during sexual intercourse to prevent pregnancy and transmission of sexually transmitted infections (STIs—such as gonorrhea, syphilis, and HIV). Invented by Danish MD Lasse Hessel, it is worn internally by the receptive partner and physically blocks ejaculated semen from entering that person’s body. Female condoms have been available now for over 15 years.
