hpv spreads

Can HPV spread to other parts of the body?

Say if you had a wart on your hand at one point and time, can it spread to other areas of the body like, the genital and anal area, even feet, etc? And if so can that be severe or is it easy to take care of the wart?

hpv doesnt spread like that…the warts one gets on the hands etc are not the same type as the genital warts, genital warts are STD’s while the ones on ur hand are not.
there are over 70 types of HPV viruses.the ones that cause genital warts are entirely different than those causing warts on hands and feet…so dont worry if u have a wart on your hand…it doesnt spread that way…

test for stds at home

If I had unprotected sex after missing the pill, how high are my risk for pregnancy?

I have been on the pill for a couple years now and just recently in the past month have either missed a day or was late a couple of times. I am on the last week on my 28 days and was late on one pill a few days ago. I had unprotected sex (with someone I know, so I am not at risk for STDs) I am worried about being at risk for pregnancy. I rarely get my period due to such a such high dosage pill (I am unsure if this would relate to my risks) Are there any symptoms the morning after? When should I take an at-home test?

I missed a pills in December of 02 and I had a son turning one in January. We weren’t expecting to become pregnant…

I now have a 5 year old and a 3 year old who will be 4 in September (do the math…lol).

It generally takes 5 weeks for a pregnancy test to come back positive. Take a test in a couple weeks and if you are still unsure go to your ob/gyn and have them give you a test. If you still haven’t started your period then have an ultrasound. I wish you the best of luck!!

chlamydia treatments

What are the chances that my treatment for Chlamydia didn’t work?

I went into the gyno a little over a month ago for a yeast infection, long story short, I contracted chlamydia from my now ex. I was treated and haven’t had intercourse since, I went back into the gyno for yet another yeast infection and she said it’s too soon to retest that they like to wait awhile before they retest because it could still show positive. I was reading that it’s possible that the treatment didn’t work, is that true?

It’s possible. Depends how virulent the infection was and how strong the strain that infected you was. Could be that the strain was already exposed to your treating antibitotic already and has built up an immunity to it thus requiring a stronger antibitotic. That’s normally the case these days especially when doctors are so into this whole “give ‘em an antibitotic for whatever they got wrong with ‘em” mentality these days. Worse case scenario, the doctor might not have sent your specimen to the lab to get a positive result and instead just went off of her assessment as to what the pathogen might be. In that case, the treatment is a hit or miss scenario and they’ll eventually get it right.

HIV and urine and blood work. MORE ANSWERS PLEASE.NURSES, PPL IN THE FIELD?

I recently was in the ER. I had a UTI that spread to my kidneys. They said that my white blood cells in my urine were very high and meant even after antibios the infection is there. ANYWAY… if I would have gotten AIDS from a partner 2 and 1/2 years ago, that blood count would be quite low correct? I also had complete wiorkup including any internal viral problems I could have due to my symptoms that nite just in case somehting like mono was present., everything was normal in my labs. So is that a good thing in the sense that I can stop driving myself crazy about this mistake I made over 2 years ago? With all the commercial/ads to keep ppl safe it is hard to not constantly think about it. When I went to my gyno 2 months ago for my annual my pap was normal, they are required to ask if I want an AIDS test and I asked her if she thought I needed one and she said she isnt concerned for me w/ my history, but its still my choice. So should I just put my mind at ease and let this go?

A blood cell count is just a way to gauge your immune system, if you don’t know what your typical cell count is it’s not going to indicate a whole lot. Not only that, during intial HIV infection your white cell count actually skyrockets. Long story short, cell count alone does not inicate the presence or absence of an HIV infection.

A “complete workup” will not include an HIV test, nor should it because you have to give permission for your blood to be screened for HIV. Unless you specifically signed a consent to screen for HIV antibodies, your “complete workup” would not have detected it.

If you truly want to put your mind at ease, get an HIV antibody test done. Nowadays there are plenty of clinics that provide the test for free, and there are types of tests that will give you a result in 20 minutes.
